Huddersfield boss Wagner: We must forget about table, results, whateverby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveHuddersfield Town boss David Wagner has urged his players to focus only on themselves ahead of facing Manchester United.Wagner’s team having won only once at the John Smith’s Stadium this season, scoring four goals in 10 games. He said: “We have to make ourselves independent from what is around us, from the table, results, whatever.”We are exactly where everybody predicted us so this makes no sense to think about it and get affected by it.”We are only able to collect points and to be competitive if we perform on our highest level. This is what we’ve done in recent weeks and this is what we’ve done in the second half (against Southampton), where we looked competitive.”In the first half we didn’t perform at our level, we were not competitive and we were 2-0 down.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

The worlds of sport and politics frequently intersect, with most politicians keenly aware of the prestige that can accompany even the most perfunctory association with athletic glory.Conservative MP Boris Johnson, who could very well be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is someone who fully understands the value of sport as a vehicle for acquiring political capital. While rugby is his first love, having played for Balliol College during his time at Oxford, he has also displayed an interest in football, infamously flattening former Germany international Maurizio Gaudino in a 2006 charity match. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? He was also involved in England’s unsuccessful bid to host the 2018 World Cup and, during his time as mayor of London, developed a relationship with a number of clubs. So does he support a team? When it comes to club allegiance, Johnson is a classic fence-sitter and refuses to nail his colours to the mast.In 2015, mid-way through his second term as mayor of London, he explained that he his sympathies were spread across the capital.”I support all of the London teams,” Johnson said, before adding that his children were actually Newcastle United fans.Of course, such an answer is politically expedient and unsurprising. It is also fair to say that the support is merely cursory, given the deep rivalries that exist among many of the London clubs. In the absence of any further clarification the most we can say is that Johnson hopes the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, West Ham and Crystal Palace do well. What we can say for sure though is that Johnson does support the England national team and has attended matches at Wembley, sitting alongside political friends and foes to cheer on the Three Lions.Even though he was fiercely critical of Vladimir Putin and appeared to back a boycott of the 2018 World Cup, it did not stop him from expressing his support for Gareth Southgate’s team. It’s coming home 🦁🦁🦁 🏴 #Proud #ENGSWE— Boris Johnson (@BorisJohnson) July 7, 2018Indeed, he wrote to British embassies across the world to urge them to fly the St George’s flag from their buildings ahead of the last-16 victory over Colombia. Then, when England defeated Sweden in the quarter-final, he readily joined the chorus of fans who cheerfully declared, “It’s coming home” – a line from the popular song by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds.

For the 9-5 guy who prefers to leave his grooming needs in the hands of a professional, getting a haircut usually means spending a lunch hour or a precious weekend afternoon planted in the barber chair. Until now.A new app called Shortcut makes summoning a talented barber to your home, office, or hotel as easy as ordering an Uber. Shortcut is the brainchild of three friends, Irvin Slobodskaya, Will Newton and Jeff Umansky, and born out of personal necessity. “I had grown frustrated by the fact that often times my busy schedule prohibited me from getting an appointment at my favorite barbershops, especially when I really needed a cut quickly and I didn’t have time to plan ahead,” says Slobodskaya. “After talking to friends, family and colleagues, I realized there was a void in the market and that’s how it began.” So the trio made it way more convenient to get a trim: Simply complete a brief profile and a barber, picked based on your needs and location, will be delivered to your door like a pizza for slightly more dough ($75 to be exact). And this can all be done between the hours of 8am and midnight.Suddenly, you have no excuse for looking like Shaggy. Unless, you happen to live outside of New York City, which is the only city currently serviced by the app (though other locales are in the founders’ sights). Order up, New Yorkers!

Here I was, getting all googly-eyed over a glass of hooch that tasted old enough to vote, and this guy tells me it’s just barely over a year old. My mind was blown. What kind of black magic was this?Turns out, it wasn’t black magic at all; it was just 2Bar’s unorthodox aging process. Not only do these guys mash, ferment, and distill their booze from the ground up using locally-grown grains; they also age it in smaller barrels — just 15 gallons instead of the usual 55 gallon variety that most distillers use. What’s the advantage of aging in smaller casks? Well, aside from the fact that you can carry more of ’em on a forklift, smaller-volume barrels tend to speed up the aging process and help the booze develop flavors an accelerated rate. The reason bourbon makers leave their elixir in barrels for 8 to 12 years is because when you’re aging 55-gallons of whiskey, it takes a long time for the booze to extract tannins and vanillins from the charred oak. With a smaller barrel though, you get a higher surface-area-to-liquor ratio, so the chemical reactions needed to mellow the alcohol and develop the flavor profile occur more rapidly. Therefore, all those wonderful oaky flavors that would take years to achieve in a full-size 55-gallon barrel can be achieved in just a few months. Now to be fair, 2Bar isn’t the only distillery that does this — but in my humble opinion they’re doing it better than a lot of distilleries that are decades older. The company is barely two years old, and already they’re making some of the best young bourbon I’ve had in recent memory. I can’t wait to see what they’re producing a few years from now.Go find yourself a bottle. Immediately. You’ll be blown away. What is Bourbon? How to Grow a Beard: It’s Not Just a Look, It’s a Philosophy How to Grow and Maintain Stubble There comes a point in every bewhiskered man’s life when the stubble goes scraggly, the itch sets in, and a lack of grooming and trimming morphs into a full-on facial hair fracas. When confronted with this dilemma, most men are content to throw in the towel and reach for the razor, but with the right beard care products, you can take your scraggly face from shaggy to stylish.Related: A Beginner’s Guide to Beard GroomingStarted in 2013 by three friends in Montreal, Les Industries Groom, is a Quebecois company focused on producing high-quality, all-natural, hand-made grooming and beard care products for today’s whiskered gentlemen. With so many unpronounceable ingredients in the mostly unregulated big-name grooming market, the guys at Groom decided to buck that trend and instead went with what they know—and what they know is natural.Groom is dedicated to using no artificial scents, coloring-agents, parabens, or petroleum-derived products. The company makes all of their offerings “in small batches to guarantee freshness and quality,” says co-founder Julien Blanchard. “We approach our products with a clear mind, free of the dogmas of the cosmetic world. We take the time to find effective alternatives to parabens, petroleum and silicon, with no compromise on the performance or quality of the products. Some of our essential oils are also harvested from local species of evergreen and our beeswax also comes from a local producer.”We reviewed Les Industries Groom’s full line of natural beard care products, including their beard wash, beard oils, and beard balm. Here are our thoughts.Beard WashYou wouldn’t use bar soap on your hair, so why are you using shampoo on your beard? Shampoos are often harsh, with chemical agents used to strip oil from the hair and the skin, leaving both dry and dull. Lathering up with a squirt of Suave is also not the best method for taming your beard tangles. Instead, look to a wash specifically geared toward your facial hair.Groom’s beard wash combines the conditioning properties of natural essential oils such as pine needle oil, juniper berry oil, and cedar-wood oil, with the cooling effect of menthol for a refreshing, nourishing, and invigorating wash. We loved this wash for its minty-morning wake-up factor and its post-wash, absolutely clean feeling. Slip this beard wash into your morning shower routine and you’ll be smelling woodsy, feeling spry, and looking sly, all before seven o’clock.$25 CAD for 250 mlBeard OilIt is a law of nature that, at a certain point, your beard will begin to itch, and not just a little. So, to save yourself all that scratching, opt instead for a few drops of beard oil. Used to moisturize and condition not only your beard, but also the skin underneath, beard oils are an essential tool in any man’s grooming vanguard. After cleansing, simply rub a few drops between your hands and massage thoroughly into your beard. The oils will tame any unruly flyaway whiskers and the scented essential oils will leave you feeling energized.Original ScentGroom’s original-scented beard oil is a fragrant bouquet of pine, bergamot, and lavender, and contains a nourishing base of argan, jojoba, coconut, macadamia, and hempseed oils. Sourced locally from a small producer that makes hemp products of exceptional quality for both cosmetics and culinary purposes, Groom’s hempseed oil is used for its outstanding properties when applied to both skin and hair. Blanchard notes, “It’s a dry oil (leaving no greasiness) that helps to nourish and moisturize, while also being quickly absorbed by the hair and skin. Although it does have a pleasant nutty aroma, it doesn’t impact much on the fragrance.”Tobacco ScentWe were a little skeptical to take this beard oil for a spin due to it’s tobacco inspired scent, but boy were we wrong. As Blanchard puts it, “The tobacco beard oil does regularly raise eyebrows just with the name of the fragrance; but to be fair, the scent is composed of 12 essential oils, among which you will find sandalwood, spikenard, pepper, vanilla and aniseed, to name but a few.” With a husky aroma and non-greasy formula, Groom’s tobacco scented beard oil is perfect for an occasion where you want to make a well-groomed and aromatic impression.Les Industries Groom’s Beard Oils come in a 30 or 60ml classy amber-glass bottle with an integrated glass dropper.$28 CAD for 30 mlBeard BalmMuch like a beard oil, a beard balm is meant to moisturize, nourish, and tame your facial hair, but with one extra feature: protection from the elements. Made with shea butter, hempseed oil, coconut oil and locally sourced beesewax, Groom’s beard balm is an excellent addition to your winter hair care routine. Not only does it provide a protective coating for your facial hair, but shea butter and coconut oil also soften while they condition. The balm, however, is extremely thick and sticky, so a little goes a long way. And be sure to do as the directions instruct and warm a tiny amount with the heat of your hands before applying liberally to your beard–otherwise you’ll just look waxy. With a woody, citrusy scent, highlighted by notes of natural beeswax, this beard balm smells as luxurious as our beard will feel.$25 CAD for 60mlThe TakeawayWe have to give props to Groom for their devotion to all-natural beard care products. They are an excellent example of what we can expect from cosmetic lines in the future. Lacking harsh chemicals, solvents, and scents, this beard care line can be used daily without the worry of drying or dermatological reactions.
